Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Linux Security Architect and Penetration Tester to oversee and secure our Linux-based infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of Linux systems administration, cybersecurity principles, and the ability to conduct comprehensive security assessments and penetration tests. The ideal candidate will be proficient in identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities to ensure the integrity, resilience, and optimal performance of our servers, network devices, and applications.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers, including but not limited to CentOS, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Continuously monitor system performance; identify and resolve issues; and implement improvements to enhance system availability, performance, and security.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to maintain system security and integrity.
  • Develop, implement, and manage robust backup and disaster recovery procedures, including regular testing and validation.
  • Collaborate with developers, operations teams, and other stakeholders to design, deploy, and maintain secure Linux-based applications and services.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and penetration tests on Linux systems, networks, and applications to detect vulnerabilities and potential risks.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of security assessments and penetration tests, providing actionable recommendations to mitigate identified risks.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologies and tools to enhance system performance, security, and efficiency.
  • Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures for internal and external use.

Participate in on-call rotations to provide prompt responses to system outages and emergencies, ensuring minimal disruption.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in Linux administration.
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems, including CentOS, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Strong scripting abilities in languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware or KVM.
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking as it pertains to IT and information security.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, including AWS or Azure.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying and resolving complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to participate in on-call rotations and respond promptly to system emergencies outside of regular business hours.
  • Proven experience in cybersecurity, including penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST or ISO 27001.
  • Hands-on experience with security assessment tools like Nmap, Nessus, and Burp Suite.
  • Familiarity with security assessment methodologies, such as OWASP or PTES.
  • Professional certifications such as CEH, OSCP, or CISSP are highly desirable.
